Particularly in the context of change processes, specialists and managers are repeatedly confronted with resistance and conflicts of various kinds. In addition to a positive image of the future with a comprehensible and inspiring narrative, it is therefore a core competence to practise dealing well with the resistance and conflicts that naturally arise in change processes.
We do not see resistance and conflict as disruptive factors, but as healthy mechanisms of an organisational system that is confronted with change. The forces of preservation and the conflicts that are caused by newly emerging ideas and a “shaking up” of established patterns in the organisation deserve attention and careful consideration. Managers in particular are faced with the challenge of moderating a constructive approach to the tensions between old and new and organising a good transition for everyone involved.
p4d offers various training programmes on the topic of “Dealing with resistance and conflict”. Basically, we use the House of Change (according to Claes Janssen) as a framework for understanding the emotional phases that people prototypically go through in times of change. We then present a series of selected tools and methods for dealing with resistance and conflict, which participants can apply to their specific challenges in a practice phase and try out as part of the training.
