Hamburg Süd

As one of the ten largest container shipping brands with around 5,000 employees worldwide and part of Maersk Line, Hamburg Süd is one of the market leaders in container transport. Hamburg Süd ITS unites all IT matters of the globally active divisions of the company. p4d supported Hamburg Süd ITS in 2018 and 2019 in further developing the division’s organisational culture towards more agile structures and self-organisation. After understanding the current situation, a vision for the future of Hamburg Süd ITS was developed, concrete implementation steps for the new organisation were agreed and, on this basis, a common operating system, i.e. a set of rules for the organisation, was developed and implemented.

SMS group

For its strategy and change processes, p4d has been supporting the international plant manufacturer SMS group since 2010 with process consulting, process support, (virtual) training, workshop moderation and leadership coaching. Our work focuses on anchoring topics, content and processes in the organisational culture – within and between teams, at department and division level, nationally and internationally – supporting mergers of individual divisions and organisational changes, as well as organising and facilitating international conferences and large group events.

Since 2020, p4d has been supporting SMS group’s change management during the introduction of SAP S4/Hana.

GIZ

The Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) needed an external sparring partner for innovative concepts for internal organisational development and event design, who could support the planning and implementation of the measures with a fresh view from the outside: p4d supported, for example, the process design of a multi-national leadership training course, accompanied a cultural change project for internal organisational development and moderated individual internal strategy and planning workshops.

Berghof Foundation

In 2018 and 2019, p4d accompanied the Berghof Foundation through an extensive organisational development process against the backdrop of a changing and rapidly growing organisation. The starting point for this comprehensive change process was an organisational culture analysis. Based on this, p4d supported Berghof in a joint process of understanding, which was followed by the co-creative development of four identified levels: the organisational structure, the strategy, the structures and processes as well as the “operating system” of the organisation and its cooperation. In addition to a new organisational structure and a new strategy, the results of the OE process were a basic document on vision – mission – values, a new organisational structure including the definition of roles and the organisation’s common code of conduct.

For the internationally active ball bearing manufacturer, high-calibre teamwork is one of the key criteria for success. For SKF, p4d facilitated various workshops with upstream cultural analyses for teams and management teams – nationally and internationally – to create common ground. The workshops enabled the participants to significantly improve their collaboration.

STROTHMANN

Using the right levers for sustainable change with just a few interventions: As a specialist in handling and transport solutions, STROTHMANN is a successful provider in the field of industrial automation and intralogistics. p4d supported STROTHMANN in the further development and implementation of its corporate vision. Qualitative interviews were the starting point of the intervention. STROTHMANN managers reflected on the current state of the corporate culture from their function-related perspectives and developed initial future ideas for more sustainable shared responsibility. The interview results were fed back into the company and jointly reflected upon as part of a management workshop moderated by p4d. This formed the basis for the ‘Operating System 2.0’ project to implement the vision throughout the company. p4d subsequently supported STROTHMANN’s management team as a sparring partner and source of inspiration for further development and securing results.

Centres For African Excellence

Achieving more together: The Centres of Excellence are modern education centres that meet international standards and have been set up by the DAAD at leading African universities with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office. The aim of the education centres and their programmes is to increase the quality and relevance of education in selected subjects and to promote research and networking. p4d moderated the high-profile networking and strategy conference of the African-German Centres of Excellence. Welcome to the Common Ground – e.g. 2015 in Flensburg, 2016 in Ghana and 2017 in Kenya.

Since 2017, p4d has been advising AMOVA, a global technology leader in the intralogistics sector, on various change processes. On the one hand, an international merger process was accompanied, the kick-off of a new business model was supported at the start and the change and development of the entire organisation was accompanied.

Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung (BLE) und Bundeszentrums für Ernährung (BZfE)

In 2020, p4d organised the 4th Bonn Nutrition Days for the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE) and the Federal Centre for Nutrition (BZfE) for the first time as a virtual conference with around 200 participants under the title “Eating will change – nutrition and the planetary boundaries”.

p4d supported the BLE/BZfE on the three conference days and in the run-up to the event with the technical planning, realisation and virtual event management for the successful implementation of the online conference on questions about opportunities and challenges for a sustainable transformation of our food system.

BMZ

Cooperation with civil society is an important task for the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Here, the BMZ needs to enter into dialogue with a wide variety of people and organisations, shape dialogues and find forms of cooperation. The particular challenge here is to find a better solution together despite differing interests. p4d supported the BMZ with preparatory analyses, workshop moderation and active process support.

DAAD

DAAD

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is an expert in international exchange and develops scholarship programmes at university level. As part of a strategy development for an established programme with a focus on Africa, p4d conducted qualitative impact research in Namibia and South Africa on target group needs and experiences with the programme. The results formed the basis for the strategy workshop moderated by p4d. This made it possible to identify opportunities and trouble spots in intercultural communication between headquarters and partner countries and to develop tangible results for the further implementation of the programme.

This renowned charity organisation decided to prepare for the long-term future and global trends and changes, actively engaging a highly committed workforce to further improve their work towards the goal of eradicating hunger and poverty. We supported the process design, advised the organisation on action research and facilitated the multi-day workshops to analyse, develop and implement the project. The success: a high degree of employee participation and activation as well as a common approach that motivates everyone.

From global competition to more co-operation: The Global Coffee Platform is a multi-stakeholder initiative with the aim of creating a thriving and sustainable coffee sector. It brings together public and private actors using a bottom-up approach and promotes the cross-sector adoption of minimum requirements and a level playing field for joint reporting. p4d supports the GCP in its complex and challenging tasks: As a sparring partner, organisational developer and moderator in the restructuring and further development of the organisation. In addition, p4d was active in the interim management of the HR department.

Virtual teamwork across national borders is the order of the day for the internationally active software company. For this to work, it is essential that people enter into a dialogue with each other. Together with its partner Synergie Vertriebsdienstleistungs GmbH, p4d designed and moderated an international large group event lasting several days for SAP AG’s core developers working in different countries to optimise future collaboration.

Conference support from A to Z: As a public-sector credit institution, Sparkasse Nürnberg successfully serves private and business customers and is the most important financial services provider in the region with over 100 branches and self-service facilities. In order to be able to operate successfully in the changing market in the future, Sparkasse Nürnberg is intensively dealing with the topic of change.

p4d developed a concept to accompany and moderate the Sparkasse Change Conference. At this forum, all managers of Sparkasse Nürnberg entered into dialogue with each other on the topics of trends, dealing with change and innovation. To this end, the p4d team delivered an overall concept comprising a keynote speech, interactive dialogue and moderation.

The aim of the pilot project “Mülheim East Competence Region – Competence Centre for Special Educational Support” was to network stakeholders from a wide range of municipal, school and private institutions in an urban district who often do not work together and to make them more effective and able to act together.
